      August BioPro Wastewater Treatment System

      by Tim Clifford on Friday, 04 November 2011
      Oh no. Not another “bio” system. That’s what Terry Hutt thought when he named his company last year, after seeing a need for an affordable cost alternative solution to Ireland’s wastewater woes.

      The last year has seen tremendous changes in the way Ireland views wastewater management and local authorities, companies and newer developments have been put under the microscope as to the treatment of effluent and the ability to safely return it to the environment. Terry, a Canadian born architect has been practising architecture in Ireland for 7 years and with the downturn in the economy and the building bust making it harder to make a living, decided to change his focus to providing an affordable alternative to the traditional methods of wastewater treatment and raise the bar in the final level of treatment the system provides for one off homes to purpose built systems of up to 5000 people population.

      Their partner, August IR is a German - Lithuanian company that has been developing and manufacturing high level wastewater treatment systems for over 12 years, and has specific patented technology that treats the wastewater to a very high level. It isn’t rocket science, but it does require a PhD, and the two men that developed the system for August are both professors in bio technology. Terry met with the owner, Philionis August, and saw a product that would fit in very well with the Irish Ethos. Thus a partnership was borne.

      Some of the finer points;
      CE Marking. All units are serialized and conform to the most recent European standard for pre-packaged wastewater treatment systems. August plants undergo a specific testing to “raise the bar” by adopting a rigorous regime known as the Veolia Protocol for their conformity. This adds a higher level of testing taking the unit to 300% capacity for weeks and also dormancy for 3-4 weeks ensuring the units will work under very different conditions, replicating highs and lows.
      ISO 9001, ISO 14001 – The Company adheres to strict process controls which ensure best manufacturing practises.

      Another AT-8

      Odour. None of it. The system operates silently and with no odours.

      Mechanical Cleaning. The units incorporate an ingenious screening mechanism which does not allow any harmful particulars to enter into the internal portions of the system that could harm it. The basket design is easily cleaned out and is handy for the layman to use.

      High Grade of Effluent. The outflow from the unit has been treated to a high degree: BOD: 7mg/l, SS: 10 mg/l, Total P: 2mg/l,  NH4-N: 2mg/l
      A six person unit only has 1.5m³ of sludge production for the year, making it low maintenance and easy to clean.

      The Warranty. All the units carry a ten year guarantee with a two year guarantee on the blower, which is the only mechanical part on the system. The blower uses about 270kwh annually for a six person system, and only operates half the day at specific timed intervals.

      The Price. Starting at an introductory price of only €2450 for the small holiday home, the units are under priced for what they do. Good things do come in small packages, however you don’t always have to pay a fortune for a quality product.

      Advantages of August BioPro patented wastewater treatment plants:
      • High-performance, removes nitrogen and phosphorus;
      • Uses no chemical substances;
      • No offensive odour given off;
      • Insensitive to peak flows;
      • Low power consumption (4PE uses 208 kWh/per annum);
      • Low generation of excess sludge (1 cub. m./per annum of excess sludge 4PE)
      • Occupies less space and spoils no aesthetic scenery, making the most of the available space;
      • Easy-to-use, cost-effective installation and maintenance;
      • Can be left free of wastewater for 30 days +, great for planning long-term trips and holidays;
      • Can operate under any weather conditions – due to the biological processes running in the plant, the contents of the tanks do not freeze even under a very low temperature;
      • Conforms to the highest ecological standards and produces no impact on nature.

      Futhermore,
      • The August Biopro plant can be Installed and commissioned within 1 working day.
      • Wastewater treatment starts the moment the plant is started (no down time).
      • The water treated in August Biopro wastewater treatment plants could be reused as service water.

      August BioPro is committed to helping people address their wastewater needs at a reasonable price. Emerging applications for factories, cattle marts, commercial developments, and local authorities will see a rise in BioPro’s ability to apply their product and make a difference. There is no project too small or too large so please feel free to give Terry a call.
