On 26/10/11 Eamonn Smyth, Technical Advisor within the Building Standard Section of the DoECLG made a presentation at a wastewater conference held in Portlaois.

The Title of the presentation was "EN Certification and National Annexes."

During the presentation he outlined the test parameters that a packaged treatment system was required to complete to comply with the requirements of EN 12566-3 and the IRL National Annex.

In plain english, not all waste water treatment units/ secondary treatment units/ bio units etc being sold on the IRL market are suitable for use in Ireland.

We have asked all the wastewater treatment companies in Ireland to voluntary provide us with their EN12566-3 Certs and we will place them on the website for the site assessor community.

There are approx 22 waste water treatment companies in Irl BUT there are very few that have systems that are suitable for use in IRL.

At present and for the foreseeable future there is not going to be a national database outlining the units that are suitable for use in Ireland so we have asked all the wastewater treatment companies in Ireland to voluntary provide us with their EN12566-3 certs and we will place them on the website for the public and site assessor community.

If you are a site assessor, homeowner, engineer etc check with the manufacturer to make sure the waste water treatment unit you purchase or specify has a correct EN12566-3 cert and is suitable for use in IRL.
Remember: Just because a wastewater manufacturer tells you they have an EN12566-3 cert DOES NOT mean it is suitable for use in IRL.
