In the past when I have completed a site assessment I have sent the site charachterisation form to various suppliers looking for a site recommendation/proposal form to submit at planning stage. Recently I have noticed quiet a few Further Information requests coming back informing me that there is a discrepency between my recommendations on the Site Charachterisation Form i.e. quantity of piping for soil polishing filter etc AND the desing proposal provided by the manufacturer.

I investigated futher and what the local authorities have told me it is my responsibility as the Site Assessor to make a recommendation for the soil polishing filter, sizes etc and It is the responsibility of the WWTU manufacturer to recommend the product and size of the wastewater treatment unit that is suitable for the site. (primarily based on no of occupants, loadings etc).

    In short:

Site Assessor responsible for sizing of Percolation Area/Soil Polishing Filter
WWTU Manufacturer responsible for the sizing of the waste-water treatment unit

For future design proposals from WWTU manufacturers they are to remove any mention of the sizing of percolation areas/ soil polishing filters.

Yep. I found the manufacturers always seriously reduce the amount of area required when compared to the CoP. While this is more expensive I feel it best practice to stick with the CoP.
