      Hi,
I work for Nitto Kohki who manufacture the MEDO brand diaphragm-less LA air blower and am legitimately interested in peoples thoughts on air blowers.
I have been supplying air blowers into the Irish market for many years and believe that the LA blowers offer a clear advantage in terms of lifetime, but want to know the serious thoughts of others.
In my opinion, the most important factor is where your air blower is located; I strongly advise keeping the air blower above ground in a well ventilated box, away from the aeration chamber.
If you have concerns, check the blowers air filter. if its caked in a thick greasy substance react - clean or replace the filter yearly or as is required! This grease comes from your homes clothes washing powders and will do the blower no good.
The other, more obvious factor is to ensure your blower does not become submerged in wet or flood prone areas. If it does it must be removed and dried before corrosion starts.
Finally, de-sludge your system every year or two and if unsure of the state of the diffuser, fit a pressure gauge to the air line. Commonly the pressure should be no greater than 200mbar (3psi).

      Hi Richard,

Personally I thought all air blowers were the same. A friend of mine has had to replace his blower already even though his tank is only 2 years old. He is raging that they only last 2 years as he was charged 180 euro. I rang him after reading your email and he still had the box in the garage and he said it used "diaphram" technology.

You said that "if unsure of the state of the diffuser, fit a pressure gauge to the air line."
Can you explain how this is done. Do I fit the pressure gauge to the outlet of the airblower or attach to the diffuser? Where do I purchase a pressure gauge?

      thx

      Tim

      Hi Tim,
Its easiest to fit the gauge onto the outlet of the air blower with the use of a tee-piece.
many places sell pressure gauges, but users should ensure the full scale deflection of their gauge should be no more than 1bar (15psi).
The gauge will indicate how hard the system is making the blower work - i.e, how hard is it to blow down the pipe. If its too hard (above 200mbar) the pipe or diffuser may well be blocked or the tank in need of de-sludging. if its too easy to blow down the pipe, it might have come away from the diffuser somewhere within the tank.
the other advantage of a pressure gauge is that the needle's position can be marked when new, then can be referenced back every year or so to watch for any creeping change over extended periods...
I have a photo of some gauge and fitting examples that supply customers. i will try to attach it onto my profile page if it helps.

      Hi Richard,

Just wondering if you could upload some of those photos, I am attending to inspect a system in the near future.
